A Local Favourite: Over the Loom Vintage-Inspired Children’s Clothing

When I recently learned about Over the Loom (thank you, Little Miss Mama!), it was love at first sight.  The online boutique is stocked full of gorgeous {and affordable!} children’s clothes that have the perfect amount of vintage charm, and to be honest, that was enough for me.  What I didn’t know at the time though, is that Over the Loom is a Vancouver-based shop run by a local mama of two little girls.  Her dream has always been to open a children’s clothing shop, and with a lot of hard work and an eye for hand-selecting gorgeous pieces, she’s making her dream a reality.  Learning that made me fall in love with the shop all over again…  I love supporting local businesses, and when they’re run by hardworking goal-oriented mamas?  Well that’s even more amazing!

Knowing there was absolutely no way I couldn’t support Over the Loom, I settled in on the couch, cup of tea in hand, and began to narrow down my favourites pieces.  Hah – narrowing them down was a near impossibility!  After reviewing and whittling my selections several times, I think I was left with 9 or 10 very favourite pieces.  Oy.  After a couple days’ thought and the help of both Brad and Grae, I managed to narrow it down to just my very favourite top 5 pieces.  Here they are…

Okay, seriously…  How sweet is this little chambray lace top?  I just adore the rounded collar, lace details, and satin ribbon bow, plus it fits beautifully and has a zipper down the back for easy on and offs.  I think it looks adorable paired with these cropped leggings, but I also think it would be perfect with a pair of bloomer-style shorts or skinny jeans and a cardi come winter time.

These.  These little shootie flats take my breath away and are probably my favourite thing out of our entire order.  The neutral colours paired with the soft velvety bow is absolute perfection and I can just tell that they are super comfy on.  I also love the side zippers that make putting them on and taking them off a breeze, even for an almost 3 year old.

This sweet little dress combines two of my very favourite things – classic polka dots and beautiful lace detail.  Not to mention the colour – I absolutely love this bright summery coral!  It fits beautifully, the material is soft and flowy, and the collar is the perfect finishing touch.  Miss G recently wore it out paired with a rich, royal blue cardigan, and without a word of a lie, got at least 10 compliments in the matter of an hour and a half.

Oh, the sequin party dress!  This dress was 100% Gracen’s pick, and she absolutely adores it.  In fact, I don’t think there’s been a day that she hasn’t asked to wear it for at least part of the day since its arrival.  Besides being stunning, what I love about this dress is that although it looks ultra-fancy, it’s very wearable and comfortable.  The sequinned top isn’t at all scratchy {inside or out} and there’s a long zipper down the side that makes putting it on and taking it off easy.

OVER THE LOOM

What I love most, however, is the way it makes my girl feel the instant it’s on.  The bounce in her step and the non-stop twirls make it obvious that she feels fabulous in it, which makes my mama heart very happy.  It’s truly the perfect twirling dress and I can’t wait for her to wear it to special parties and holiday events.

The last thing in our package was these ridiculously cute spectator oxford flats.  I mean, come on… Surely it can’t get any more adorable than this, right?  I bought these a size too big so that they’d fit well come winter, but Miss G has other plans.  She loves them so much that she’ll happily glide around the floor in order to keep them on, as long as it means having them on her feet.  And you know what?  I don’t blame her… With beautiful details and colours, I wish I had a pair in my size!

  1. Adorable clothes! So many I love, but I NEED the iridescence purple dress for my nearly two year old daughter!!!

    1. Hahahaha! I know what you mean, Sandy! The good news is that with the exception of a few high-end pieces, everything is very affordable compared to other children’s boutique prices!

  2. Well, of course you know I want one of EVERYTHING!!! And I am so sad that the military jacket is sold out!!! I should have ordered it when I had the chance!! I would get the ruffle back cardigan for a start, but it would be really hard to choose what else I would pick – it is all so CUTE!!!!

    1. I know, I was terribly sad about the military jacket too… Maybe we can convince Over the Loom to bring it back in stock??? :D

      1. I actually contacted my supplier to see I can get it some more right after your order, but unfortunately they discontinued that style! I do have one similar style coming out soon in White and Navy Stripe!

  3. I was skeptical, and I never enter contests but these clothes really are beautiful and affordable. I am impressed. I entered the contest, too. My favourite, was the ecru embroidered lace collar dress. It’s adorable!

    1. I’m so thrilled you like them, Suzanne! I was thoroughly impressed with the prices too… I love all of the beautiful children’s boutiques Vancouver has to offer, but I just can’t justify spending $75 to $100 on a toddler-sized dress!

  4. So fun! Never heard of this brand before and I love that its mom designed and supporting ‘local’! Would love to win the credit to shop for my 15mo old.

  5. I can’t wait for Adelynn to wear her new outfits! And I also can’t wait to see the fall line! Thanks for the contest

  6. Little miss mama introduced me and I am in love! For some reason I can’t enter, even though its not midnight yet. :)
