Abbotsford Tulip Festival

Miss G had a four day weekend this weekend, and with the sun shining and temps predicted in the mid-twenties, we decided to spend our Monday out at the Abbotsford Tulip Festival with good friends.

I had already had a bit of a moment on the drive out of the city…  One of the ones where all of my years of living in a very beige Kuwait catch up with me and I’m suddenly completely overwhelmed with the beauty of lush greenery, tree-lined highways, and gorgeous mountain views. Honestly – Canada is just so ridiculously beautiful and sometimes it hits me like a ton of bricks.

And then we pull up to this.

A massive, massive field filled with thousands of neatly rowed flowers, all sorted by colour.

It was take-your-breath-away beautiful.

With our babies packed into strollers and our big kids on foot, we took our time making our way around the perimeter of the display, stopping to admire the tulips and take photos along the way.

The kids absolutely loved it and we great about following the no picking rule – instead, they collected fallen petals to put to use in an undetermined project later in the day. ☺

Our little Sam snoozed in his stroller for most of the morning as we bumped along the dirt path, allowing me and my big girl to snap several photos together.

When we’d made our way all around the field, we headed to the u-pick area to select a few stems to take home.

Miss G loved this part and happy picked an entire bouquet for our kitchen table.

By this time our little man had woken up, so we decided to try and get a photo of he and Miss G together…  I had big dreams of a lovely snap of them sitting amongst the tulips, but baby bubba was having none of it.

After trying sitting up and lying down, we quickly gave up on our mission, scooped that poor boy up out of the tulip field, and headed to the picnic area for some lunch, playtime, and nursing {which obviously makes everything better – even after your mama puts in a field of flowers for a silly photo}.

  1. Oh my!!! I just LOVE the photo with the snowy mountain peak in the background. Something you just don’t see here. I remember when I went to Scotland and was just AMAZED by the mountainous views and I swore that before my days are numbered, that I will get to Canada and hopefully drive across it in a camper van. Another must is New Zealand. All for the snow and mountainous views. We have a botanical garden here (in Perth, Australia) that has a tulip festival every year which I haven’t quite got to yet. We got there a few weeks late last year so another thing on my bucket list for this year! Can’t wait. I’ve been inspired now.
