After having our Christmas tree up for only a very short time, we realized that we needed something to redirect Gracen to when she is becoming a little ‘handsy’ with our real tree. I originally saw this idea on Pinterest a long while ago (though it was so long ago that I can no longer find the original source) and thought it would be worth a shot, so I got to cutting it out and hanging it last night. So far, she seems really into having her own felt tree to decorate and undecorated, so let’s hope this works. Fingers crossed. :)
This morning the sun was shining and we decided to get out and enjoy it by heading down to the river…
It’s beautiful, quiet, and there’s lots of space for little G to roam around. One thing’s for sure – this little lady is not a scaredy cat. She’ll bravely wander off without so much as a glance back. As a little experiment, we decided to hang back and see how far she’d go before turning around and realizing we were not right there beside her, but that never happened. She just kept on cruising away from us without a care in the world (terrifying, I know)…
Eventually, Papa had to go, rein her back in, and direct her attention to the little playground she coasted right by.
This playground is very unique in that it’s made of almost solely local driftwood.
Pretty cool, eh?
After getting our fill on the driftwood playground, we walked along the riverfront until we reached the next playground. Gracen loved this tube slide, and somehow she and Papa convinced me to go down the slide with her despite the fact that I could come nowhere near to sitting up inside. There are some photos of the incident, but let me tell you – they aren’t pretty. Rest assured that I’m doing you a favour by not posting them. :)
Last night Grae got to be a part of the lighting of the tree, but was in bed before we actually got to start putting the ornaments on. This morning she awoke to a fully decorated tree, and needless to say, she spent most of the morning visiting the tree and turning the ornaments over in her little hands. Despite the many sparkly, shiny ornaments, the ones she’s most drawn to are our paper maché ornaments from Kuwait. She proudly points out all of the camels adorning the tree and when you ask her what a camel says, she’ll say ‘t-puh, t-puh’, which is her version of a camel spitting. Hahahaha!
No, we don’t usually have a weird bistro table in front of our TV… It’s current home is by our front door (where it was put on Halloween evening to hold bowls of candy, but shhh… don’t tell anyone that). Apparently Grae was doing some furniture rearranging while I prepared her snack, because I came out of the kitchen to find this.
Our Christmas tree arrived this afternoon… Taking out our ornaments and testing the lights was an interesting task with one very curious little lady around, but her reaction to the initial tree lighting made it more than worth it. :)
Today we decided to try something new and headed down to Hillcrest Centre to try out their Play Gym morning…
The Hillcrest gym is really beautiful. It’s surrounded with giant windows on three sides, with one looking out onto a giant field, one looking out onto the curling rink, and the other looking out onto the skating rink.
Clearly Grae enjoyed spying down at people.
And although there was lots of new equipment to try, there were many of her old Sunset Centre favourites too. We’ll definitely be back.

Luckily Gracen’s appetite has returned to normal this week, so our days no longer revolve around preparing food and cleaning up the inevitable messes. One thing that has not changed, however, is her obsession with “dip-ah”. She will dip everything and anything, which makes for some interesting combinations.
Our good friends Tom and Sue had a couple of extra tickets to tonight’s opening night of Bright Nights in Stanley Park and very generously invited us to join them. It had been a busy day with our trip down to Bellingham and because Miss G had had an early nap on the way there, she ended up falling asleep on the way to Stanley Park. Imagine her surprise when she woke up in her Ergo, surrounded by crowds of noisy kids and millions of sparkling lights! It was great timing that she woke up when she did though, because we were just about to board the miniature train.
We’d been planning a trip down to Bellingham for a couple of weeks now and although we had a bit of a rough start when our vehicle wouldn’t turn over this morning, we made it to our destination just slightly behind schedule. Some of my girlfriends had told me how inexpensive the groceries are in the States, and we wanted to check it out for ourselves… Boy, oh boy – were they ever right. We did a huge grocery shop and most of our staple items we buy every week were half price or a third of the price we’d normally pay here in Vancouver. Score!
