Unlike yesterday, today we made it to play gym. And a half hour early, might I add. ☺
Yay for better days.

This morning my little brown fox and I headed out to our first official Halloween event – ‘Howl-O-Ween Play Gym’ at our local community centre. Gracen was super excited and happily announced different costumes as she saw them. Her favourite? An ridiculously cute broccoli costume worn by the baby brother of two little girls in her Ballet with Billie class.
Here’s our morning in photos…
Gracen the fox.
Making music.
Jack-o-lantern (quite possibly the trickiest craft ever for wee ones 4 and under!)
Foxes teeter totter too.
Decorating a cookie for Papa.
So spooky.
Costume model.

Admittedly, I am the very last person in the world to jump on the Instagram wagon. In my defense, I’ve actually had the app for a really long time, but just kind of randomly started using it the other day. I’ve been having so much fun with it that I’ve kind of put my real camera aside for the last couple of days, but I promise that’ll come to an end very soon. In the meantime, here is some of our day via Instagram…
steamed milk stop // making music
tunnel crawling // canadian girl
gracen to the rescue // frogs like to smell flowers too
clover // newly organized
apple store visit // soup for dinner

Today’s play gym visit was all about Frog. Everything that Gracen did, Frog did. Come to think of it, Kermit probably had a better time than Grae because she used many of her turns to send him down the slide, help him jump on the trampoline, and push him on the plasma cars.
Of course, when Grae went potty, so did Frog (ew…public washrooms and stuffed creatures – don’t worry – he didn’t touch a thing!) and when Gracen waved goodbye to play gym and all of the kids and toys, so did he. What a silly little doodle I have on my hands.
Gracen at your service!
Today we headed back to our regular Sunday play gym session after a short good weather hiatus. Since our last visit, they’ve decorated the upstairs windows with paper grass, flowers, and rabbits in preparation for Easter. Strangely enough, Grae loved the decorations so much that she preferred spending her time walking back and forth along the hallway windows rather than in the gym filled with toys, kids, and play equipment. We eventually settled on a compromise of some gym time first, followed by lunch in front of the windows. Our silly little doodle was happy enough with that.
It’s Friday, and true to our old routine, we headed up to Sunset Community Centre’s play gym. It was a bit of an interesting day (a father decided to inform a mother nursing her 6 month old baby – with a cover no less – that it was inappropriate to breastfeed her child in public…yikes…poor guy sure knows how to get a group of predominately stay-at-home-mamas riled up!), but Grae had a wonderful time none the less. Here are a few photos from our visit:
Baby jail.
Teetering.
Dancing and twirling in the centre circle.
Stacking.
Visiting her pony friend (this was taken just after she planted a kiss on his nose).
I don’t know what we’ve been up to, but we certainly haven’t doing our regular Friday mornings up at the Sunset Community Centre play gym sessions… Maybe it’s because the weather’s been getting nicer and we’ve been spending more time outdoors, or maybe it’s because the lovely teacher, Aggie, no longer runs the sessions, but either way, it was nice to be back today. Gracen loves it, it’s nice to chat with the same moms each week, and it’s just a few blocks up from our house. How can you go wrong really?
Gracen was very excited to be back. There was some regular play involved…
But she spent the majority of her time frantically running from one car/trike/bike to the next, climbing on, pushing the centre of the wheel/handlebars, and declaring, “Beep, beep, beep!”
I’m not sure what this is all about, but hopefully it’s not a reflection of her Mama’s driving. :)
Brad had the day off today, so we all headed down to Hillcrest Centre for their Sunday morning family social and play gym session. Here are a few snapshots from our visit:
The rest of the day involved the usual Sunday activities – snuggles with our little lady, some work around the house, and some time outside.
We’re enjoying finally being well enough to get out and do the things we normally do. This morning we headed over to the Hillcrest Community Centre for their Sunday morning family social and play gym session.
After coming home and having a GIANT 3 hour and 15 minute nap, Gracen and I jumped on the Canada Line and headed downtown. We walked around for a little bit, visited Chapters, and then picked up Bradley from work when his shift ended. It feels good to be well again!
Today Grae and I decided to check out the Sunday Family Social held at Hillcrest Centre. It’s just like the regular Play Gym sessions they usually host throughout the week, but with more kids and more daddies.
They also have a “quiet play & snack room” where they provide healthy snacks for the little ones and coffee and tea for moms and dads.
Gracen had a lovely time with the other kids and it was nice to find something new to do on the weekends. We’ll definitely be back.
This morning Gracen proudly took her Grandma Charlotte and Grandpa Dave to the last Play Gym session of the year to show them what’s it’s all about…
She had to show them how she and her Papa drive the little pink Plasma Car, of course!
As soon as we got home, she slipped into her favourite purple sneakers and donned her Mardi Gras-esque beads. She’s fashion forward like that. She doesn’t look too happy in this photo, but rest assured that she quite enjoys sitting in bins while being slid across our tile floors. It’s almost always her idea.
Later in the day, still wearing her purple sneaks and beads, but with sunglasses now added to the mix, she tried pistachios for the first time. It was love at first bite.
Doesn’t get much cooler than this, now does it?
Our evening included skirt-less love for a diaper-less Bubba…
And relaxing by our very dead Christmas tree. Not quite sure what we did wrong, but it’s been that way for almost a week now. It gets more and more droopy / sad looking each day, so let’s just hope it holds out until Christmas.
I’m not quite sure what happened here, but today we went to Play Gym up at Sunset after missing it last week, and suddenly my little lady can do all kinds of things she couldn’t do last time we were there…
Today she was getting in and out of the little cars without any help…
Positioning herself in front of the slide and sending herself down all by herself…
And got down off of the trampoline on her own… How did this happen so quickly?
And yes, I am completely aware of the fact that my one year old looks like she dressed herself… In fact, she sort of did. Every morning when we get ready for the day, I pick out part of her outfit and she picks out the remaining items. I had already picked the striped leggings and teal cardigan this morning, but the problem was that there weren’t many viable t-shirt options. As much as I hoped she’d pick the plain white tee, she opted for the canary yellow one instead. And don’t even get me started on the purple dotted shoes. She’s in loooove with these shoes right now. Most days she wears them around the house too and cries when I tell her that they have to come off for nap time, so there was no convincing her that other shoes might better suit this outfit. :)
Today we decided to try something new and headed down to Hillcrest Centre to try out their Play Gym morning…
The Hillcrest gym is really beautiful. It’s surrounded with giant windows on three sides, with one looking out onto a giant field, one looking out onto the curling rink, and the other looking out onto the skating rink.
Clearly Grae enjoyed spying down at people.
And although there was lots of new equipment to try, there were many of her old Sunset Centre favourites too. We’ll definitely be back.
