Our Last Few Weeks in Kuwait…

6 / 13 / 157 / 27 / 15

Whew.  What a whirlwind few weeks.  Busy, but so, so good.  Being exam time, I tutored more than ever, plus we made time to do several special meet-ups with our closest friends, and I managed to sneak in several nights out with my girlfriends too.  During the days that Miss G and I were not busy making memories with friends, we sorted, organized, and cleaned our entire apartment top to bottom.  Important stuff made its way into our Canada shipment bins, some items were sold, and tons was given away.  In between, we cleaned a disastrous apartment a couple of floors up, moved the majority of our furnishings up, and set everything up for a new family coming to Kuwait.  We made scrapbooks for our closest friends, snuck in quick trips to some of our favourite spots around Kuwait, and were totally spoiled by our desert family.  On our very last full day in the country, several of our friends met us at the Jumeirah Beach Resort for a day of sunshine and swimming.  It was wonderful.  Afterwards, I snuck home to tuck Miss G in bed, did a few final jobs, snuck in a shower, and wrote a CBC post before heading out the door to a friend’s place for one last night with my mama friends.  We ate sushi, drank wine, gossiped, and said goodbye, and that was that.  Another chapter of adventures comes to a close…  Goodbye, Kuwait.  We’ll miss you.

Al Farsi International Kite Festival

2 / 28 / 153 / 5 / 15

Oh my goodness… Grae and I had the loveliest morning today.  After an unsuccessful attempt at getting out to the Al Farsi International Kite Festival yesterday, this morning Miss G and got ready, jumped into our SUV, and headed south into the desert.  We saw a huge herd of camels along the way, which is always exciting, but Miss G was extra impressed by the fact that there were two that were so light that they looked bright white. ☺  Not long after the camels, we spotted a group of huge, colourful kites on the opposite side of the highway and we knew that we’d found what we were looking for.

Despite the fact that we arrived an hour later than we intended to (an hour after opening), we were some of the first people to arrive and Miss G loved the fact that we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves.  Arabic music was bumping, new kites were being put up by the kite team one after the other, and all sorts of bouncy castles were begging to be jumped in.  It was a blast.

We ended up staying for a couple of hours, and Miss G was treated like a little queen the entire time.  Everywhere we went, she got smiles, hellos, offers of face painting, and invitations to colour, and she actually ended up leaving with a mylar balloon, a Kuwait kite, and a wrapped gift.  We also ended up sharing an order of french fries, which in our family, is pretty much the treat of the century.

Here’s our morning in photos…

December Beach Day

December Beach Day

Though I truly do miss the rain, cold, and snow of back home this time of year, I really can’t complain about spending December days at the beach in 24 degree weather.  Today’s adventure included a coffee pit stop first thing, a visit to the playground with friends, stories of the sea cuddled up in front of the sea, loads of sand art, and a warm milk for Miss G on the way home.  A lovely morning, to say the least.
