Beach Days at the Hilton Kuwait Resort {our sanity saver}

3 / 24 / 154 / 5 / 15

For a brief period of time, I told myself that I could make it through the last few months of our time in Kuwait without a Hilton membership once it expired. Then I came to my senses, visited the manager to arrange for a pass that would take us through to the summer, paid the ridiculous fee, and breathed a sigh of relief.  I also arranged for a pass for Brad’s mom to use while visiting, and I’m so glad I did.  It sounds dramatic, but this place is our sanity in what can be a somewhat chaotic country.  It’s where we escape the unbearable heat and spend hours in a chilled pool.  It’s where we come to use a safe and clean playground.  It’s where I come to spend some ‘me time’ walking at night. It feels normal and oftentimes, that’s exactly what we need.

Friday Fun

2 / 27 / 153 / 5 / 15

Today, after a morning at home that started out really well and ended quite poorly, we got a last minute invitation to join some friends at the Hilton before heading to their place for dinner.  I {being me} was beginning to go absolutely stir crazy and needed to get out of the apartment, so I jumped at the opportunity, prepared a salad and a veggie tray with homemade dip, and had us all packed up and ready to go in 35 minutes.  I’m so glad I said yes.  It turned out to be an absolutely lovely afternoon filled with sunshine, play, good friends, and delicious food, and it doesn’t get much better than that.

December Beach Day

December Beach Day

Though I truly do miss the rain, cold, and snow of back home this time of year, I really can’t complain about spending December days at the beach in 24 degree weather.  Today’s adventure included a coffee pit stop first thing, a visit to the playground with friends, stories of the sea cuddled up in front of the sea, loads of sand art, and a warm milk for Miss G on the way home.  A lovely morning, to say the least.

Fall Mornings at the Hilton

11 / 11 / 1411 / 15 / 14

While everyone else may have stopped visiting weeks ago, I think fall may be the Hilton’s very best season…  The season of playground play and beach exploring!  Both are pretty much out of the question during the hot spring and summer months, so Miss G and I are taking full advantage now that we can bear to be outdoors without being in a pool.  This morning we had all kinds of fun on the beach digging for creatures, collecting treasures, and writing and reading words in the sand, and next week we’ll try doing a little playground tour with Miss G’s bike. ☺

Here’s our morning in photos…

iPhoneography // Friday Family Day

4 / 25 / 144 / 26 / 14

This week’s been sort of rough.  Miss G’s been extra needy and I’ve been staying up extra late in order to finish up a big project I’ve been working on.  Needless to say,  the tired mama / whiny 3 year old is not the best of combinations.  We made it through the week and my hope was that the weekend would serve as a reset.

Luckily, so far so good {thank goodness}.

Our morning started with Gracen experimenting with drinking water like a lion – something she’s been asking to do for days. {Have I mentioned that she is totally Lion King obsessed?! Oy.  It’s out.of.control.}  When I asked if she was ready to go to the Hilton, her response was, ‘Yup, Queen Sarabi.  I just have to finish drinking my pond water.’  The girl didn’t skip a beat.  The bulk of our morning was spent split between swimming in a waterfront pool and playing on the beach of the Arabian Gulf, which was lovely.  Then, after coming home for lunch and a nap, we met some friends down in the courtyard and gave the concrete a little makeover using squeeze bottles filled with our favourite sidewalk chalk paint recipe.  Later in the evening, our very good friends dropped off a very unnecessary thank you gift – Ladurée macarons and special homemade, wholewheat, sugar-free cookies for Miss G {sweetest thing ever}.

As far as days go, I’d say this is pretty much as good as it gets.  And the best part?  Gracen is back to her happy little self.  Ahhhh…

A Birthday Party at the Beach

3 / 6 / 143 / 25 / 14

IMG 6506

Oh, how we’ve missed the Hilton…  We were invited to a birthday party on the beach this afternoon and it was absolutely beautiful. Grae frolicked in the sand, dipped her toes in the ocean, and loved every minute. I had almost forgotten how much we enjoy our time there.  Needless to say, my pangs for a ridiculously overpriced membership are stronger than ever.  Ugh.
