This weekend we took our stash of Christmas books out and oh my word… Was Miss G ever excited. She’s been asking to take them out for ages now, so as soon as we did, she got straight to sorting, organizing, and reading them. {Gosh, I love her.}

A Surprise Package
Is there anything more fun than receiving a surprise package with your name on it? Probably not.
This morning Miss G woke up to a great big box from her Manmaw Sue and it was like she had won the lottery. While some kids her age might tear through the package, throwing opened items aside to make way for new ones, this girl does not. She carefully unfolds the paper around an item, takes a moment to figure out what it is and what it does, and then sets it aside before carefully selecting the next. I love that about her. She genuinely appreciates each item. Glitter? Amazing! Shiny eggs? Awesome. Stickers? Even better! Everything is special.
And she didn’t waste any time putting her new Easter supplies to good use, either. We took out a big bin, added some of our homemade coloured rice and a few of her new Easter goodies, and she instantly had a scooping/dumping/egg shaker making station.

Mail Days
Gracen’s obsession with our “mail store” continues… She knows when we’re about to drive by it and will always point it out, ask if we can go in, or announce that she has her “eyes peeled (for) mail trucks”. This afternoon when we drove by, she asked if we could visit the “mail lady”. I explained that it was closed because it was Sunday and that we would visit once it opened on Tuesday. This is what she had to say afterwards…
Gracen: Mail store closed Sundays.
Mama: Mmmhmm.
Gracen: Mail store open school days?
Ummmm… What the what?! I’m fairly certain we’ve never talked about weekends vs. school days or about the days of the week at all for that matter. How in the world does our just-turned-two-year old know about ‘school days’?!

Special Delivery
There are few things Gracen loves more than getting mail, even if it’s just flyers and junk. So imagine her excitement when we arrived home to this heavy cardboard tube and I told her it was for her…
Ya, she was beyond thrilled.
She let me hold it just long enough to slice the label that was holding it together, and then carefully went about opening her mystery package, not knowing that it was going to be filled with goodies she (and her Papa) had helped me choose and personalize online.
The first thing she found was this beautiful growth chart, personalized with her first and middle names, and printed with gorgeous babushka dolls. She loved it so much that she was doing a nervous-sounding giggle in between little shrieks and stomps. And I’m so glad she did. Being half Ukranian, I’ve always loved babushka dolls too. My Baba had several in her house while I was growing up and I always thought they were very special. Later, when my Dad went to work in Russia when I was a teenager, he brought me back two of the largest, most beautiful matryoshka dolls I’ve ever seen, and I still have them to this day (note to self: they need to be dug out of safe keeping and displayed in Miss G’s room asap).
Also inside the package were a ton of gorgeous personalized labels. What I hadn’t thought of in advance, unfortunately, was the fact that Grae would think that they were just stickers and immediately want to stick them in her notebook (obviously – com’on Mama!) I explained that these were special stickers… Ones meant for lunch containers, drink bottles, and clothes – not just paper, and she seemed to be semi-okay with that.
I quickly tucked the labels away and asked if she wanted to help me hang her growth chart up – luckily, she was sold. She was a great little measuring tape/pencil-tack passer and in no time, we had her new growth chart hung.
Once hung, it was time to measure her… 86.5 centimetres – meaning that if the whole ‘measure at age 2 and multiply by 2′ theory turns out to be true, she’ll be taller than her 5’ 4” Mama. Yay for that!
Here’s a closer look at Grae’s labels. Aren’t the woodland creatures and the muted colours paired with red adorable? These are iron on clothing labels that are washing machine and dryer safe!
And these little babushka doll ones are stick on name labels that are dishwasher and microwave safe, but can be put on almost anything.
In the next couple of weeks, Grae and I will be putting all of these new goodies to the test and seeing how they hold up when paired with a very busy toddler. We’ll be sure to share our findings with all of you soon!

Highlights
A few highlights from Miss G’s day…
Learning what a piggy bank is for and begging Mama for more and more and MORE! coins.
A trip to our mail lady.
Gracen taking a rock from her pocket, placing it carefully on each piece of equipment at the playground, and giving it “rides”.
The other highlight of our day was attending our first of several Stroller Fitness classes in Queen Elizabeth Park. Gracen was a go-with-the-flow gal and loved that her baby friend Tate was able to join us. Sadly, there are no pictures of the adorableness that was our babies all lined up in strollers… We were much too busy running up hills and lunging around the park for that!
Afternoon Activities
A few photos from our afternoon at home…
Special delivery for Grae! A sweet little package from her cousins, Auntie, and Uncle.
In love with her new birdie dress.
Very carefully carrying around her cousin Korbin’s picture.
Tea for two in a basket.
My favourite photo I’ve taken of Miss G in a while. Makes my heart happy.
Teeny tiny french braids.
Headed out for a special sushi night with Mama.
iPhoneography // Pleased as Punch
We, quite possibly, have the sweetest mail lady ever. She adores Gracen, and each time we visit her little ma and pa shop to send off a parcel or pick up some stamps, she spends time talking with Grae, complimenting her, and showing her her special ‘mail lady things’. Before we leave, there’s always a treat of some sort. Normally it’s a set of stickers just like these. Can you believe that each time our mail lady uses up a set of stamps, she takes the 5 little decorative stickers from the tops of the pages and places them neatly where the stamps used to be in order to make little sticker collections?! She does. And then she hands them out to little ones, just like Grae. Gracen is always tickled pink with her present and showers our mail lady with thank yous.
Mail from Mexico
Okay, so not actually from Mexico, but Gracen’s Auntie Roz and Uncle Gary just recently got back from a trip to Mexico and sent her a sweet little package of things they had picked up for her while on their trip.
The parcel arrived bright and early this morning, and of course, Gracen was excited to open it up.
Inside, she found a colourful little Mexican doll…
And a beautifully embroidered dress.
She loves both!
A Parcel
This little parcel arrived for Grae first thing this morning…
Of course, she wasted no time opening it.
Inside, Gracen found all kinds of pretty Valentine’s things from her “Manmaw” Charlotte.
Including this Valentine’s stamp set. When you see red splotches all over Gracen’s face and hands in the next few days, you’ll know why. :)
Thumbuddy Loves Grae
Gracen got the sweetest little Valentine’s package ever today! Her cousins, Auntie, and Uncle sent her a Dr. Seuss board book and this adorable ‘5 little thumb buddies ♥ you’ valentine. Melt my heart! Thanks for making our little lady’s day, Kossowan Clan. Grae loooooooves mail!
