My little lady and I had a mama and munchkin shopping morning today and Grae ended up coming home with this silly sleeping mask we both thought would be perfect for long plane rides. Turns out, it’s great for car naps too! She put it on on the way home and before I knew it she was out like a light. ☺
Unfortunately, we have not quite recovered from when we veered off the path of consistent naps yet… Gracen is such a routine little thing, that sometimes it’s difficult to get back on track after falling off. As of now, she goes down for a nap after lunch as usual, she lays in the dark singing and chatting to herself for a good long while, and when she doesn’t fall asleep, I part her curtains just a little to let in some light, and she has some quiet play time alone in her barely-lit room. Down time we both need.
Besides the fact that she truly does still need her nap and our afternoon is tough without out it, the following morning we are guaranteed to have an extra early wake up (we’re talking somewhere in the 5 a.m. range). This kid is proof to the fact that good day time sleep equals good nighttime sleep, let me tell you. Then of course, she’s tired the next morning, nap time is extra tough that day, and the cycle continues. Viciously. Ugh.
Oh, and on top of that? Quiet play time equals this:
A Grae-nado as we call it.
Here’s hoping for a return of naps, ASAP.

Though Gracen’s crib could have been converted to a toddler bed, we opted to rearrange her room a little and make space for a large floor bed. Not only does it give her lots space to spread out while sleeping {and minimizes falls out of the bed}, but it also allows for family snuggles, awesome story reading sessions, and provides a new play space too. Tea anyone?

I don’t know if it’s the fact that our little old house is between 27 and 30 degrees during the day, the fact that she’s just about finished breaking through two shiny new molars, or it’s just the excitement of all of the fun afternoon adventures we’ve been going on, but this little lady hasn’t napped in two days. (Eek!) So today, as we’re cruising home from the pool, windows down, music up, I turn around to see this. My beautiful little lady, fast asleep in her car seat at 5 p.m.
It was business as usual around here this afternoon… Lunch. Potty. Cloth diaper. Story. Snuggles and a song… Then I laid my munchkin down in her crib with her special blanket and bear family as I always do. I gave her kisses, told her how much I love her, and closed her door. As I did my usual quiet time tidy, I could hear her pre-nap time chatting and noise making coming from her corner of the house. It went on for a little while, but soon turned into squealing, giggling, and loud “Gi-GULL, Gi-GULL, Gi-Gull” noises. The girl sounded like she was having a crib party alone in her dark room!
For a dreaded moment, I thought to myself, Oh God, I hope this isn’t the beginning of her trying to drop her one and only daily nap… Thank goodness, she eventually did fall asleep. But it was not until an hour after the fact.
Once she woke, I went into her room to see exactly how she’d spent that hour… Arranging her little bear family just so, of course!
She was quite unhappy that I came in only to dash out in search of my camera and return to take photographs rather than pick her up…
But once showered with Mama kisses and released from the confines of her crib, she was more than pleased with herself.
Holy heck. I just tucked my sweet little lady into bed with a teddy bear and Baby Tate‘s birth announcement magnet. The obsession just rose to a whole new level.
