Granville Island With Baby Sam

3 / 17 / 164 / 4 / 16

IMG 0914

Today was such a good day.  It included sunshine, blue skies, happy kids, and one of our favourite spots, and it was exactly what we needed.  We’ve always loved adventuring around our city, but with our little Sam Sam home with us now, visiting our favourite Vancouver spots is that much more special.

IMG 0913

Of course Miss G’s all about taking her baby brother to new places and she therefore makes sure to narrate the important bits along the way.  ‘Sam Sam, this is Granville Island.  You’re going to love it here.  There’s a play ground, aqua busses, big hungry birds…’  ‘Sam Sam, this is the Kid’s Market.  You can come through the small door with me.  Well, if your stroller fits!’

IMG 0915

Admittedly, our little Sam is more interested in snoozing on most of these outings than anything, but that’s a-okay with me.  A sleeping baby is a happy baby, right?

Besides the blossoms being out in full force, the highlight of our trip was this – Miss G’s THIRD tooth coming out!!  Well….  Truth be told, she let me pull it out {with a wee bit of coaxing}, but it was soooo ready and I was worried that it would fall out and she’d swallow it.  She didn’t flinch a bit when it popped out and afterwards she proudly showed both the tooth and her gap off to a little friend who had been watching nearby.

Now let’s hope this sunshine sticks around for a little bit so we can do more {dry} adventuring as a family of four. ☺

Canada Day {2013}

7 / 1 / 137 / 7 / 13

While we spent Gracen’s first two Canada Days in the Okanagan at the lovely Davison Orchards, today was our first Canada Day in Vancouver as a family of 3.  As usual, there is tons of fun, family-friendly stuff happening around our vibrant city, but we decided to spend the day at one of our favourites – Granville Island.  We arrived early, while parking still wasn’t an issue, picked up a couple of little treats from the public market, and walked along the boardwalk to the water park and playground.  Brad and Grae zoomed down the water slide a few times, Grae got a tattoo and her face painted, and we enjoyed some lunch in the park while taking in some jazz.  To say that it was lovely would be an understatement.  Here are some photos of our day…

Mama Bloggers & Munchkins: A Play Date

2 / 11 / 132 / 17 / 13

Since being selected as one of Vancouvermom.ca’s Top 30 Mom Bloggers, I’ve gotten to know some really incredible and inspiring local ladies.  Over the course of the last several months, we’ve turned to one another for advice and support time and again, and have become fast friends because of it all.  I’m beyond grateful to be part of such a wonderful bunch of mamas, and it goes without saying that I will miss them dearly while away in Kuwait.

Today Miss G and I were lucky enough to meet up with several of my lovely blogger friends – Tairalyn of Little Miss Mama, Amy of The Connection We Share, and Erin of Erin at Large  – as well as their adorable munchkins for a Granville Island play date.  The weather wasn’t completely on our side, but the company certainly made up for it.

Friends.

1 / 19 / 131 / 19 / 13

IMG 4448IMG 4492IMG 4484IMG 4478IMG 4494IMG 4457IMG 4449Growing up, there was a group of 7 of us girls who were extremely close.  Throughout the years, some of us have moved, married, developed careers, and had babies, and all of us have grown up and changed. The thing is, bring us all together again, and it’s as close to effortless as friendship can be.

Today Grae and I had the opportunity to spend time with 3 of those friends (plus an adorable little addition to the crew named Miss A).  We brunched, walked, reminisced, and conducted a mini photo shoot which I’m certain led several strangers to believe that we are completely insane (I don’t blame them).  Grae soaked up every moment.

Over dinner, I asked her what her favourite part about today was.  Her response was, “Those friends.”  Good call, baby girl, good call.  I can only hope she finds girlfriends that stand the test of time one day.

Mama & Her Girl

9 / 22 / 129 / 23 / 12

IMG 9921Photos of me and my girl are so rare that having just one is noteworthy… (But that’s all about to change very soon because we’re having our first EVER professional family photos taken in just a few weeks – yay!)  This one was taken just before leaving the lovely Granville Island this morning.  It was cool and dreary and quiet… Which was perfectly fine with us.

A Granville Island Morning

8 / 16 / 128 / 16 / 12

Today we spent our morning at one of our favourite Vancouver spots… Granville Island.

Skirts & Sandboxes

My little lady may insist on wearing a pretty little skirt, a white top, and glittery shoes to the playground, but that doesn’t stop her from getting down and dirty in the sandbox…

Picnic Perch

7 / 12 / 127 / 12 / 12

IMG 6658IMG 6662IMG 6664IMG 6666IMG 6669IMG 6671Today my little lady and I braved the {insane} crowds and visited Granville Island.  With our wagon packed with essentials, we quickly picked up our not-so-essentials (fresh bread and iced coffee) and headed over to what I think is Granville Island’s best kept secret – Ron Basford Park (one of our favourites). Even on a day where it took us 45 minutes to find a parking spot and the sidewalks were crawling with people, we were two of six people in the park (seven if you include the maintenance worker mowing the grass). We climbed to the top of the hill, laid out our blanket, and had a peaceful picnic for two upon our perch.

iPhoneography // Vancouver International Children’s Festival

5 / 31 / 126 / 1 / 12

Despite the weatherman’s prediction of a sunny day, in true Vancouver style, we woke up a healthy dose of  liquid sunshine this morning.  Instead of putting our plans on hold though, Gracen and I decided to throw on our gumboots,  brave the rain, and head down to Granville Island for the Vancouver International Children’s Festival as planned.  And I’m glad we did.  Gracen really enjoyed the Twist & Toddle activity tent, as well as the shadow puppetry tent, face painting station, and the musical performances, and the rain really didn’t bother us in the least.  I’m looking forward to attending again next year when more of the activities are age-appropriate for this little lady…
Children s Festival

puzzle play // water table fun

firefighter Grae to the rescue // mama’s baby bird

colouring // shadow puppetry (Grae was the fish)

face painting pro // sweet cheeks

lunch in the rain // puddle jumping

♥

If you’re a Vancouver mama heading down to the festival to partake in the activity zones, be sure to bring cash, as that’s the only form of payment accepted.  Also, something to be aware of is that everyone has to pay to enter the activity areas, including mamas supervising their little ones and the teeniest of infants, which is a little unusual.

Vitamin D

5 / 12 / 125 / 13 / 12

I am so, so lucky to have a wee one that loves being outdoors as much as I do.  We spent our morning at Granville Island playing on playgrounds, watching birds and boats, strolling the seawall, and taking in live performances, then came home just long enough for a nap, and headed right back out the door.  Our afternoon adventure took us down to Jericho Beach, where we played in the sand, dipped our toes in the ocean, and collected ocean treasures.

St. Paddy’s Day

3 / 17 / 123 / 16 / 13

Today Grae and I had a busy day filled with all things green.  It started out with a happy little munchkin waking up extra early and extra hungry, so we got to it and prepared a green breakfast.IMG 7844

Finding something green to wear was a bit of a challenge as this little lady has very little green in her closet, but it was nothing a ridiculously big green bow couldn’t fix.  It was so adorable in fact, that we ended up having a little impromptu St. Patty’s Day photo shoot.

IMG 7858IMG 7852
IMG 7856

The weather forecast called for a rainy, snowy morning, but by 9:30, neither had made an appearance so we packed up our things and headed down to Granville Island to get some fresh air and do some exploring.  We picked up our usual Granville Island treats (Terra Bread cheese flutes for G and a coffee for Mama) and headed to the playground where Gracen played in sand, slid on repeat, and made some friends.

IMG 7867IMG 7868IMG 7871IMG 7873Afterwards we headed back to the Public Market area and visited the birds, boats, and performers like usual.  IMG 7880IMG 7885IMG 7887IMG 7896Apparently Grae was pooped after a crisp morning outdoors because she was out like a light after just a minute in the car.

IMG 7912

After a great nap, I prepared lunch while Gracen begged for pieces of green onion below me.  I ended up giving her a whole green onion and the little monkey was pleased as punch, headed to the living room with it, and chowed down.  Luckily she saved enough room for our green lunch.IMG 7914IMG 7934
The afternoon turned out to be beautiful too, so we took advantage of it and headed outside to do some art.  Grae was beyond excited to use bingo dabbers (sadly, we didn’t have green, so we ended up with blue and rainbow coloured shamrocks, but oh well…) and dug the sidewalk chalk as usual.

IMG 7947IMG 7949By late afternoon, G had worked up an appetite, so we whipped up a quick green smoothie to hit the  spot.IMG 7997
Shortly after, it was time for our last green meal of the day.  Of course this little monkey carefully picked out and ate each pine nut and avocado chunk before eating anything else.IMG 8020IMG 8024

Gracen’s second St. Patrick’s Day… Whew!  How things have changed in a quick year.  Just take a look at my chubby-cheeked, spiky-haired little munchkin last year.

A Day with Gma Char

3 / 3 / 123 / 3 / 12

Today we got in a full day of quality time with Grandma Charlotte (a.k.a. ‘Gma Char’).  It involved a Granville Island visit, some shopping, several tea parties, plenty of cuddles, and a giant Costco trip.  All in all, I’d say it was a pretty great day.   Here are a few photos I took along the way.
