An Evening Picnic
With Brad working on the school’s yearend production until 9 or 10 p.m. most nights this week and me preparing for an upcoming craft market each night into the wee hours, it’s bound to be one heck of a week. Unfortunately, Miss G didn’t help me out any today when she decided to not nap either. (Yesterday we got stuck in a huge traffic mess on the way home from a play date out in the burbs and by the time we arrived home, we’d already missed the nap window by quite a lot. Sadly, one missed nap throws our very routine little lady way off sometimes.) My solution to a potentially chaotic and grumpy afternoon? Stealing Papa away from work for an hour and a half, picking up dinner at a local deli, and pairing an evening picnic with loads of fresh air and playground time. And I’m happy to report that it worked like a gem. Brad was back at school in plenty of time, the outdoors prevented our little lady from slipping into a case of the overtired crazies, and this mama got a teeny bit of afternoon downtime, something I desperately need.

Picnic Perch
Today my little lady and I braved the {insane} crowds and visited Granville Island. With our wagon packed with essentials, we quickly picked up our not-so-essentials (fresh bread and iced coffee) and headed over to what I think is Granville Island’s best kept secret – Ron Basford Park (one of our favourites). Even on a day where it took us 45 minutes to find a parking spot and the sidewalks were crawling with people, we were two of six people in the park (seven if you include the maintenance worker mowing the grass). We climbed to the top of the hill, laid out our blanket, and had a peaceful picnic for two upon our perch.

Father’s Day 2.0
Because we didn’t really get to celebrate the real Father’s Day properly last week, we said we’d set aside a little time to do something special during our Okanagan vacation. So this morning, after Bradley had a chance to sleep in, we all got ready, packed up some things, and made our way to Polson Park. Once there, we played at the playground, explored the park, had a little picnic, opened the gift G and I made for Brad, and visited with the ducks. Despite the fact that much of the park was covered in a generous layer of water due to the recent rain, it was a gorgeous morning. The sun was shining, the temperature was perfect, and the park was as green as could be.
Here is our morning in photos…
Swinging with Papa.
Soooo happy.
Snuggles and sandwiches.

A little gift.
Checking out Papa’s 2nd annual Father’s Day photo book.
“High! More high!”
High fives while swinging. No big deal.

Picnic Fail.
What started out as a sunny morning turned into a drizzling day as we pulled up to the park and a full-on hail storm as we got out of the car. Serious picnic fail. So home we went with our food-filled basket to set up an indoor picnic on our living room floor. What can you do? Here’s hoping for some good picnic weather soon!
