This month’s Bright Minds theme is ‘Around the World’, which I was super excited about after designing and running our school’s ‘Passport to Adventure’ themed camp a few years ago.
For this week’s focus country, India, my Crafty Kids got to work on a few different projects… First up, we focused on the national bird through creating these darling little paper plate peacocks from I Heart Crafty Things… This is Miss G’s peacock.
And here are some of the others. I love how differently they all turned out despite the same set of materials and instructions.
Next, we created these very fancy jewelled bangles {aka paper roll cuffs} from Happy Hooligans. Aren’t they pretty?
Afterwards, the munchkins had the opportunity to try painting with traditional Indian spices. {You can read about how we make our spice paints here.}
While the colours turned out beautifully {especially the chili and curry ones}, Miss G was most interested in sniffing the paints as she applied them to her paper. The colours, the textures, the scents – it certainly makes for a full-on sensory experience!
Next week, our journey around the world brings us to one of our favourites – Japan! Can’t wait.

What an awesome theme to go “around the world”! I love all of these activities. Painting with spices…What a genius idea! Thanks so much for linking back to me on the peacock craft. The children’s artwork turned out darling! :)
