Like the last minute mama I can often be, last night I whipped up a several pages worth of activity cards to fill Miss G’s advent calendar with. {Ahem… How’d you sneak up so quickly, Mr. December?!} Last year, I wrote the activity cards out by hand each night before going to bed, but getting them all done in one go and having a bank to choose from come midnight each night sounded like a nice change this time around.
When I sat down to type out all of my ideas, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to come up with all 24 right then and there, but before I knew it, I had 42 advent calendar activity cards done. {Hmmm… Having options never hurts, right?}
Because I like to have the ability to choose and change our daily advent activity based on what else we have going on, I left little blanks where I’ll fill in the date and the number of days left until Christmas each night. I’m thinking I’ll probably do this in pencil as these little cards would be very easy to save and re-use next year. {That, or you could laminate them and use dry erase marker instead…}
Most of the activities are things we’d do each year anyways, but that doesn’t make them any less special to Miss G! She loves reading her new note each morning, and undoubtedly, it’s the very first thing she does when she wakes up each morning.
So I’m super prepared, this afternoon during quiet play time I cut out all of the cards and put them into a jar for safe storage.
Now all I have to do each night is pick one out of the jar and place it in our little paper roll snowman advent calendar {more to come on that later}. Sometimes, depending on the activity, I’ll include a small object too {a little gingerbread person cutter on the day we make cookies, some red and green glitter on the day we make Christmas play dough, some money on the day we buy coffee for someone, or a bell tied onto a red satin ribbon on the day we watch The Polar Express, etc.}, but I try to keep it pretty simple and low-key.
Now to pick tomorrow’s activity!
And since I’ve already spent the time making them, I may as well share, right?! Download our printable advent activity cards by clicking here:

How Beautiful! Thank you for sharing
Thank you! I love that these cards have a place for my boys to keep track of how many days are left until Christmas! These are super cute and the fact that I can control what is happening on each day based on our holiday commitments is priceless! You just saved me a ton of planning time this Dec…thank you!!!
Yay!!! So happy to hear that, Jamie!
I love the open-endedness of them. I always have trouble picking what day we will do what because I am too spontaneous for that. This would solve that problem! Thank you.
Perfect, Phyllis! Glad these will work well for you. Hope you’re enjoying them. :)
I love these! I was wondering though if you have any blank ones to also add our own family traditions?! Thank you!
Do you by chance have the printable for the mason jar lid?
I love these! I have been trying to do something special everyday in December for several years now, and this is an easy way to make it happen and make it extra special. Thank you! It would be awesome if you could create some blank ones or generalized ones (make a snowman craft or make an ornament instead of make Olaf ornaments out of thumbprints; drink hot cocoa instead of make some hot cocoa and drink it by the pretend fireplace, etc). My kids are older than yours, but while they may grow out of the specifics, they will never be too old for the general ideas;)
Thank you very much!
What about the printable for the lid?
Thank you for letting us print these activity cards for Advent. I love this idea. My grandson is preparing a show and tell on National Mason Jar day Nov. 30, as well as some Christmas ornament legends the following week. Using a Mason jar is a really cute idea, and then he’ll be able to tell about his activity cards as one of his Christmas traditions beginning this year.
Thanks for the printable! It’s really cute.
Super cute! Do you happen to have the printable for the lid?
