With a Valentine’s party earlier this week, and our annual Valentine’s tea happening tomorrow, when Miss G asked to have a special day at home today instead of attending our Valentine’s celebration at Strong Start, I was more than happy to oblige. It was a day of cooking together and doing special activities, topped off with a few hand-picked gifts for each of us at the end of the day.
Here is our day in photos…

Little breakfast helper.

A breakfast full of hearts.

A special drink.

Jello play dough experiment.

Play time.

A special project for Papa.

“Love soup”.

Proud.

Papa’s pizza topping.

Heart-shaped bacon warrants a regular rectangular pizza.

Regular roasted veggies means the pizza needs to be heart-shaped.

Finishing off the day with a few little gifts. A beautiful picture frame and some David’s Tea goodies for Papa, Fauberg macarons for Mama, and a handmade purse, a new book, and some scented stickers for Miss G.

After a morning downtown and a nap at home, we headed down to the River District to finish off the day with one last dose of fresh air. Tricycle riding, dog watching, playground jumping ensued, and quacking at ducks ensued.

Some days are just too beautiful to spend indoors, even if it is at school… (Shhh… Don’t tell.)
This afternoon Miss G made a little congratulations card for her sweet playmate Ainsley, who became a big sister 11 days ago. She decided she wanted to draw Ainsley and her new brother on the inside of the card, which was a big undertaking seeing as she’s only ever really drawn circles, triangles, squares, and happy faces. When she asked for help, I walked her through the parts we needed to add to her start of two smiley faces (“Okay, now what does Ainsley have on her head?”, “What about feet? Should we add some?”, etc.) and this is what she created.
Today our first ever bandaid was needed… Miss G slipped her finger into the door of our lazy susan just as I was closing it and the end result was not good. The incident took the tip of her nail off, as well as the skin off of the top of her little finger. To make matters worse, she despised her bandaid, but after taking it off, hated seeing the blood and raw skin underneath. Ugh. Not fun for my sensitive little lady.
Magnetic flowers and sunshines.
Hello Kitty, the only merchandised toy allowed in our house.
A new favourite…

The perfect way to cap off a Sunday. ☺

A new goal of mine is to explore places around our beautiful city that we don’t usually venture out to. So today, the three of us headed out, walked the seawall along Beach Avenue (stopping to visit the inukshuk and explore the beach), and visited a new-to-us

Growing up, there was a group of 7 of us girls who were extremely close. Throughout the years, some of us have moved, married, developed careers, and had babies, and all of us have grown up and changed. The thing is, bring us all together again, and it’s as close to effortless as friendship can be.

Our house is still littered with Christmas things and bags waiting to be unpacked, but ahhhh… Does it ever feel good to be home. It was back to business as usual today – morning park visit, a trip to the library, hot drinks and treats at
Most people walk their tushies to an actual hill. We, on the other hand, pile heaps of snow onto the deck stairs, send Brad down a few times to pack it in, and tell Grae that she now has her very own sledding hill.

Afternoon walks with Grandma Charlotte have become a routine around here… Each day, G returns with a lapful of hay for ‘Santa’s reindeer’ (a white-tailed doe and her fawn) and sets it out on the snow-covered lawn so we can watch them eat it up in the evenings.
Making a bonfire with wet wood in freezing temps isn’t easy.
Four excited little munchkins.
Chay Belly and Miss G having a good laugh together.
Fire success!
Auntie Roz made sure we were a noisy bunch.
Someone went to bed for the last time in 2012 with a noisemaker in hand. ☺
