Life On the Farm

After a fairly decent sleep last night given the fact that we just arrived back in Canada yesterday afternoon, Miss G and I were up early and ready to soak in the outdoors this morning. Lucky for us, my brother and sister-in-law live on a giant farm which they’ve recently begun converting into a petting zoo {okay, not for real, but my sister-in-law may have a serious small animal collecting problem}. With Grae’s two big boy cousins off to school for the morning, us girls went around the farm meeting and feeding the animals, picking dandelions, playing games, and jumping on the trampoline. After a splatter session at a local art studio, some shopping, and some dinner, we ended the day back outdoors, but this time with all of the cousins together.

Splatter Party

Nothing better than hitting the ground running! After arriving in Canada last night, today we dressed the kiddos in play clothes and headed down to 4 Cats Art Studio for a splatter party my sister-in-law had booked a few weeks ago. Each of the kids got to paint a small canvas of their own, plus they got to work on a large collaborative one too. It was insanely messy, a ton of fun, and Miss G loved it.

This photo pretty much sums up our day… Tons of fun with our friends at Play {in Discovery Mall}, followed up by a falafel lunch where Miss G gobbled up eight falafels and tried to get her hands on a ninth! Apparently all that play worked up an appetite!

Our Mother’s Day {2014}

I had the loveliest day today. After sleeping in a little bit, Miss G very proudly came into the room and gave me this card as well as a basket full of some of my favourite things. That big blue oval on the right represents my big Mother’s Day gift… A bathtub! I can’t tell you how excited I am. Our apartments here in Kuwait come equipped with the most basic of showers only {the open-air kind that soak your entire bathroom}, which is really tough if you’re a bath person. Having not had one for the first 4 years here and now for most of year 5, I’m so, so excited not to have to do years 6 and 7 without one too. Such a nice surprise!

This girl is officially obsessed with all things Nala {and The Lion King in general}. Where we go, Nala goes. What Grae does, Nala does. And what Grae wears, Nala wears too, apparently. Today they came out of her room both dressed in tutus and wings – hah!

Because I just can’t help myself… Her first Easter took place in Kuwait, in 2012 and 2013 we were back at home in Canada, and now here she is in 2014 sitting back in the very same apartment in Kuwait. Funny how things turn out sometimes…

Today was such a good day.

Would we like to be at home with our families for Easter? Yes, absolutely. But that’s not our reality right now and we’re so lucky to have a community here in desert that helps make holidays and celebrations feel special like they would at home, especially for Grae.

The Eiffel Tower {Paris Day 3}

What a day.

Shortly after waking up, we decided we’d get ready and head out to the Eiffel Tower nice and early before the crowds made it there. We still hadn’t decided whether or not we’d go up, but we thought we’d play it by ear and decide once there. {When planning the trip, I knew I wanted to take Miss G to see the the tower, but going up didn’t seem that 3 year old friendly given the long queues and general crowdedness. That being said, after talking with a friend, I was wavering based on the fact that it may be a once in a lifetime for Miss G. Brad, on the other hand, wasn’t interested in the least. We went up during our trip in 2008, and though it is truly breathtaking up there, he figured it wouldn’t be as exciting for Grae. That and he figured that this was fairly certainly not going to be the only time she visits Paris in her lifetime.}

A Slow Morning & Jardins du Luxembourg {Paris Day 2}

After a 4:30 a.m. wake up call from Miss G {and a couple of hours of quiet time thereafter}, we brushed our teeth, threw on some clothes, and headed to the little bakery on the corner for some fresh bread treats. While Gracen chose a baguette aux noix, Brad and I opted for a regular baguette (so good!) and we headed down the street to our local park. The blossoms were prettier than ever and we had the place to ourselves, which was a perfect way to start the day.
