She spent the holidays singing this song for nearly anyone who’d listen, and believe it or not, it’s still alive and kickin’ even now in February (with killer dance moves no less).

Grae first heard this song on the radio while we were in Alberta for the holidays and you should have seen her little face light up when she heard the word “Mama” in it. She’s loved it ever since. I don’t mind one bit as I quite like it myself, but dang – sometimes I have to force myself not to pay attention too closely… Otherwise I’m a mess of tears in no time.

Gracen and I went skating for the second time today (see our first try here) and it was pretty great. We still rotated rounds of skating with the support with the extra fun chair rides, but Grae was a lot more confident today and skated for most of the time without me holding the support behind her.
Here she is in all of her skating glory…
That little clippity clop of her skates on the ice makes my heart melt.

This may be a video only a mama can sit all the way through, but every minute seriously melts my heart. Especially around 4:35 when she attempts to convert her ‘3’ into a ‘2’. ☺
Miss G has been a fan of Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ for a long while now, but just recently she’s taken her sing-a-longs to a whole new level. If you’ve ever seen the video, you know that it starts and ends with Taylor sitting in front of a window and for part of it, she talks into an old-school cordless phone.
Well now, when this little monkey wants to sing one of her very favourite tunes, she must be standing looking out a window, and she must have her ‘never ever phone’ in hand.
Miss G is currently in love with this song she affectionately refers to as “Girls ‘Tainer (container) Song”. She loves it so much in fact, that nobody is allowed to sing along. If I absent mindedly find myself quietly humming along with the tune, I’m promptly reminded “No Mama sing. Just girls sing.” Well okay then…
This song has been on repeat in our house for days now… Miss G calls it “Eva, Eva, Eva” and happily bounces around for the duration of the song every time it’s played.
Today, Gracen and I tried something I’ve had on my {mental} ‘list’ for a very long time now… Magic milk painting! And I’m very happy to say, it was every bit as cool as I thought it would be. I’m not sure where I saw it first (it was a long time ago), but I found this postvia Pinterest, we followed the instructions, and the activity was a huge hit.
Here’s what we used… Homogenized milk (I’ve read it works better than lower fat milks), food colouring, dish soap, toothpicks, and a plate (all things we already had on hand – bonus).
My happy little scientist / artist decided to enjoy the beautiful afternoon and took our things outside. With a thin layer of milk covering the bottom of the plate, Grae added drops of food colouring in various places around the dish.
Then, for the magic… With her toothpick dipped in dish soap, Grae began touching the food colouring drops. The soap causes the colouring to radiate away from the toothpick, creating beautiful circles and swirls of colour around the plate.
The more you dip, the more the colours move and blend. I must say, it’s absolutely mesmerizing to watch.
The coolest part is that the colours continue to dance and mix long after you touch them with the toothpick, so you don’t have to constantly be adding more soap to enjoy the beautiful effects.
Just take a look…
Eventually, the milk becomes quite muddled and the colours no longer ‘dance’ as well. At that point, it’s time to fetch a fresh dish of milk and start again.
We tried 3 times, twice with whole milk and once with half & half cream (thinking that the higher fat content might make the results even better), and I must say, the whole milk worked best. The cream did work well and made the colours move a little more slowly (which is a good thing if you want the activity to last longer), but at the same time, the slower effects did seem to take away (just a tiny bit) from the magic of it all.
Both Gracen and I enjoyed this activity so much that we’ll definitely be doing it again soon. And although dairy products past their due date freak me right out (I know, I know…), it would be great to pull out when you have milk that’s gone a day or two past its best before date.
Sorry for the delay, everyone! Miss G and I have been away on a whirlwind road trip / wedding / Okanagan weekend, but we’re now back in the city and getting back into our regular routine. Here are the winners for round two of our Stuck On You giveaway…
Congrats, ladies! The generous people over at Stuck On You are giving each of you $50 to spend in their online store. I’ll be contacting you both tonight with your promo codes and you can submit your orders as soon as you have them. ☺
For me, a big part of being a mama is creating special memories and traditions that your children will hold dear always and perhaps one day, pass onto their own children. With that being said, a birthday tradition we are starting this year is conducting video recorded birthday “interviews” of sorts. As the years pass by the questions will change and grow just as our little girl will… Here’s what she had to say on the day of her second birthday.
From her interview, I put together this so we’ll have something a little more concrete to add to her baby book:
Tonight, as I was finishing up dinner, I looked out the window to see this…
Gracen adores her Papa and they always find little things to do together that I would never think of (see photo number 2).
As I was back at the stove, a little voice called into the house, “Mama, Mama! Clome!! Grae Grae rolls.” I went outside to see what all the excitement was about and received this demonstration…
These two. They just kill me.

I know that this doesn’t mean that she can recognize all of her letters, or that she knows what they mean, but I just can’t help myself… I’m having a proud mama moment over here. My baby girl can sing the entire alphabet song (save a little ‘R’ / ‘S’ confusion) all by herself now. Here’s what I got to listen to all day long today…
