Quotes of the Day

10 / 16 / 1210 / 18 / 12

This morning, Miss G and I started our day cuddling and reading books in our master bed as we always do.  Brad was already at work and I went to the washroom for a minute and returned to find Gracen typing away in the email app on my phone. I gave her a little ‘what are you up to?’ look, and she immediately responded with…

“Grae Grae missin’ Papa.  Grae Grae send ‘im (him) one of deez (these).”

°°°

Later on in the morning, while on a quick trip to the mall, we stopped at the washroom.  I asked her if she needed to go pee and she said…

No, thank you.  Gracen just perfect. No pee.

(“Just perfect?! Where does she get this stuff?”)

 °°°

After discovering that my debit card was not in my wallet as we went to pay for something, we headed home {a tad bit annoyed}.  I must have been a little quiet in the car because Miss G piped up from the back with…

“Mama’s debit card at home. Mama upset ’bout dat.”

Grae’s Thankful For List 2012

10 / 6 / 1210 / 8 / 12

The other day, after reading a couple of books about Thanksgiving, I asked Gracen what she was thankful for. I explained that when we are thankful for something, we really love it and are happy to have it.  With that, she immediately started her list…

“Stickers, puppets, and Mama! Chicken… Play dough… Papa! Yummy food.  Books, balls, and parks. And schools. And swim classes!”

Love her.

BIIIIIIG GIRL

9 / 19 / 129 / 19 / 12

This exact conversation has happened non-stop for the last few days…

Gracen: Peepee poopoo!

Mama: Do you have to go potty, Grae?

Gracen: Yes. (heading to the bathroom) Grae Grae do it. Grae Grae BIIIG GIRL.

Mama: Okay, love.

Gracen: (stopping halfway to the washroom) No Mama coming.  Byyyyyyyyyyyyye, Mama.  Grae Grae go peepee poopoo.

Mama: Okay, Bubba. Off you go.

An Independent One

9 / 17 / 129 / 17 / 12

This phrase has been on repeat recently.  It’s said when it’s time to get dressed, time to turn out the lights, time to go to the potty, and time to put on shoes.  The thing is… She’s exactly like me when I was little.  Independent. Determined. And more than willing to spend the four minutes it takes to wrangle her socks and zip-up boots onto her feet if it means she gets to do it on her own.

“Grae Grae do it… Grae Grae BIG GIRL!”

From the Mouth of Grae

9 / 16 / 129 / 16 / 12

While eating her snack at Thursday’s Strong Start class…

Gracen: (while gently patting my shoulder) Sanks (thanks), Mama taking Grae Grae school.

Just after getting into the car the other morning…

Gracen: Grae Grae in seat, Mama drive. Mama seatbelt too.

Mama: Yes, Grae.  Everyone has to wear seatbelts.

Gracen: Safety first! Wear seat belts! Car open doors, Grae Grae no fall out!

While biking up a long hill Friday afternoon…

Gracen: No Mama (*insert loud panting noises here*).  No tired, Mama!  Bike faster!

On the drive to the pool this weekend…

Gracen: Mama and Grae wearing baving (bathing) suits.  Papa wear baving suit?

Mama:  Well, not really.  Papa wears swim shorts.

Gracen: Mama and Grae Grae girls.

Mama: Yes, we are.

Gracen: Papa boy.  Papa’s different.

My Very Own Cheerleader

9 / 4 / 129 / 5 / 12

This afternoon, Miss G and I headed out into the garage to collect a few things for Bradley’s new classroom.  As I was wrestling my way through cobwebs, mice turd (yes – we have mice in our garage… ugh), and 40 pound boxes, I noticed Grae shouting something while stomping her gum booted foot and clapping her little hands.  I stopped moving for a minute to hear, “Good. job. Mama!! Good job!”  This continued until the job was done.

I’m so very lucky to have my own cheerleader.

Mail Days

9 / 2 / 129 / 3 / 12

Gracen’s obsession with our “mail store” continues…  She knows when we’re about to drive by it and will always point it out, ask if we can go in, or announce that she has her “eyes peeled (for) mail trucks”.  This afternoon when we drove by, she asked if we could visit the “mail lady”. I explained that it was closed because it was Sunday and that we would visit once it opened on Tuesday.  This is what she had to say afterwards…

Gracen: Mail store closed Sundays.

Mama: Mmmhmm.

Gracen: Mail store open school days?

Ummmm…  What the what?!  I’m fairly certain we’ve never talked about weekends vs. school days or about the days of the week at all for that matter.  How in the world does our just-turned-two-year old know about ‘school days’?!

Compliments

9 / 2 / 129 / 3 / 12

Seriously. This little lady of mine just melts my heart every. single. day.  This is a real word-for-word conversation that happened today while she was on the potty and I was throwing my hair up into the usual afternoon top knot…

Gracen: Mama do hair?

Mama: Ya, Mama’s putting her hair in a bun.

Gracen: Mama looks niiiice.

Mama: You like Mama’s hair in a bun?

Gracen: Ya (as she gives my leg a big squeeze).  Grae Grae yikes (likes) Mama.

Mama: Aw, that’s sweet, Grae. I like you too.

Gracen: Mama’s so cute.

Could she get any sweeter?

Beautiful

8 / 27 / 128 / 27 / 12

On the car ride home, just after picking up Papa from work tonight…

Papa: How did you get so beautiful?

Gracen: Mama do it.

Best words all day, Grae. You certainly know the way to Mama’s heart. ☺

Grae Grae Work

8 / 27 / 128 / 27 / 12

As we’re doing our nap time routine today…

Gracen: Mama, no sleeping.  Grae Grae do work.

Mama: You have work to do, Grae?

Gracen: Ya.

Mama: What kind of work do you have to do?

Gracen: Button glueing… Put stickers on paper…

Mama: Oh ya?

Gracen: Read da books… Play puzzles…

I couldn’t agree more (well except maybe on the not needing a nap bit).  There’s definitely some very important work going on around here….

Phrases of Late

8 / 19 / 128 / 19 / 12

There are so many little things that Miss G says and does that I want to never forget.  Right now she’s got so many funny little sayings happening.  These are some of my favourites…

When she drops her baby, steps on a book, spills something, etc…

“Sorry ’bout that, Mama.” (Or, “Sorry ’bout that, Grae Grae” when you do something she feels you should apologize for.)

At random times throughout the day when she’s feeling excited…

“Wannaplay wannaplay wannaplay!”

When I ask her to do something…

“Okey dohee, Mama. Okey dohee.”

Throughout the day…

“Oh nana, what’s name?” (her version of Karmin’s cover of What’s my name?)

When referring to the closet book nook I made for her recently…

“Mook-a-nook”

When referring to something she’s already eaten…

“In da bel-buh. In da bel-buh!” (meaning ‘in the bellybutton’ – her way of saying in her belly.)

Apology Aid

8 / 5 / 128 / 5 / 12

First a little bit of background on our laundry “system” when it comes to Grae’s clothes…  I put the clean clothes on hangers, and as I do, Gracen transfers them to her bedroom and hangs them on her crib railing.  Once I’m ready to hang them in the closet, she takes them off the crib railing and hands them to me one. at. a. time.  (Good practice in patience for this get-things-done Mama.)

Tonight, as we’re doing the transfer from crib to closet, a tank top falls off the hanger and onto the floor. I scoop it up, rehang it, and pop it in the closet instead of giving it back to my very serious little helper…

Gracen:  Oopsie-day-so, Mama!  On crib. No in closet.

Mama: Oopsies! I should have guessed that.

Gracen: (giving me an understanding nod and coaching me through my next line of action) Sorry, Grae Grae. Sorry.

Backs of Busses

8 / 5 / 128 / 5 / 12

As we’re walking our bikes along Georgia street this morning…

Gracen: (pointing to the backs of the busses we pass by) Bus’ bum! Bus’ bum!

Stinky

7 / 29 / 127 / 30 / 12

While getting getting ready for bed tonight…

Papa: Grae, can you say I love Papa?

Gracen: I… love… Papa!

Papa: Can you say Mama is stinky?

Gracen: Mama… izzzz… stinky!

Mama: Nooooo! Mama’s not stinky!

Gracen: (sticking out her tush and pointing at it with both hands) Grae Grae’s bum stinky!!!

Cross Border Conversations

7 / 18 / 127 / 20 / 12

IMG 4603Headed out the door on our first Mama and Grae only States trip.

As we exited off of the highway and got onto the country-esque 8th Avenue…

Gracen: Grae Grae see horsey?

Mama: Maybe, Love. You’ll really have to watch out your windows to try to see a horsey.

Gracen: See moo?

Mama: I don’t know if we’ll see a cow, Grae. We’re almost at the border crossing now.

Gracen: Horsey, noooo. Moo, noooo. Grae Grae see baby llama? Yaaaaaah. See baby llama, pleasch, Mama??

Mama: (giggling) Sweetie, I don’t think we’re going to see a horse, cow, or baby llama today. We’ll be sure to stop and see the llamas when we go back to Manmaw’s this weekend, okay?

As we waited in line at the border crossing…

Gracen: (getting antsy while strapped into her carseat without the car moving)

Mama: Don’t worry, Grae. We just have to talk to the man at the booth and then we’ll be on our way again. (Not sure why I assumed it would be a male border crossing guard, but I did.)

Gracen: See man?

Mama: Yes, Lovey. We need to see the man to show him our passports.

Gracen: Man black man?

Mama: Hmm… I don’t know what colour the man will be, Grae.

Gracen: Papa man?

Mama: Yes, Papa is a man.

Gracen: Papa orange-y man!

As we were heading into the washroom area in Target and a large, moustached, motorbiking looking man was exiting…

Gracen: (pointing very obviously at the man) BIG MAN PEE PEE?

Never a dull moment with this little lady…
