With just over two weeks left in the desert, we’ve been doing our very best to work with what we have in the kitchen instead of doing our usual {ridiculously expensive} weekly grocery shop. So far so good, though the shelves are definitely looking quite bare. Luckily, we always seem to have something that can be thrown into the blender to create a yummy breakfast smoothie, or in today’s case according to Miss G, a ‘milkshake’. ☺
I don’t blame her for correcting me when I handed her her ‘smoothie’ {‘Actually Mama, this looks more like milkshake, you know’}, because this strawberry banana oat smoothie is definitely sweet and decadent enough to be declared a dessert.
Want to try it for yourself? Here’s our recipe! Very ripe bananas are truly a must, but if yours aren’t quite as ripe as they should be, you can always add a little sweetness with a spoonful or two of honey. Also a must? Either the strawberries or the bananas being frozen. A must. {Because nobody wants a warm, thin smoothie.}
Strawberry Banana Oat Smoothie
2 very ripe bananas
1 cup of strawberries
1/2 cup of old-fashioned oats
2 tablespoons of ground flax seed
1 tablespoon of pure vanilla
2 cups of your favourite milk {we used almond}
Put into a blender and mix until smooth. Pour into mason jars and enjoy!
