Grae’s been absolutely loving our coloured gel baggies. Today we took them off of the window where they’ve been hanging out for the last couple of days and tried them out on a very simple DIY light box I threw together for us to experiment with.

Oh my goodness… Gracen has just been loving the book activities we’ve been doing with our Preschool Book Club! So much so that yesterday while she was happily engaged in an activity not based on a book, she stopped suddenly and announced, ‘I know what this activity needs! A book to go with it!!’ Then she ran to the shelf, sorted through to find a story that coordinated with the project, and brought it over, declaring, ‘Now that’s better!’ Hah!
{this post contains affiliate links}I’ve had a package of large foam craft sticks for a long while now, but have never really figured out a fun way to put them to use. Well, today as I was working on a project for CBC Parents, I realized that the cute flower-shaped buttons I was using coordinated perfectly with the colours of the foam sticks. Having had a reusable countdown chain on my mind for quite a while now, I knew exactly what I was going to do with them.

I had the loveliest day today. After sleeping in a little bit, Miss G very proudly came into the room and gave me this card as well as a basket full of some of my favourite things. That big blue oval on the right represents my big Mother’s Day gift… A bathtub! I can’t tell you how excited I am. Our apartments here in Kuwait come equipped with the most basic of showers only {the open-air kind that soak your entire bathroom}, which is really tough if you’re a bath person. Having not had one for the first 4 years here and now for most of year 5, I’m so, so excited not to have to do years 6 and 7 without one too. Such a nice surprise!

Someone convinced her papa to tackle the giant bouncy slide with her at today’s courtyard birthday party. ☺

There’s no doubt that Grae and I love putting together fun gifts for her friends’ birthdays. So far this year we’ve given several craft kits, a play dough kit, a sensory play kit, and a little artist’s drawing kit. This time around, we wanted to try something different – keeping in mind that the birthday girl is moving come the end of the school year.
With Mother’s Day only a few days away, I started thinking about some of the fun Mother’s / Father’s Day gifts kids tend to make in school year after year. The first project that came to mind? Clay pinch pots – a classic. I don’t know what exactly has made them the go-to gift for moms and dads, but my guess is that it’s their versatility. Dad needs a coin dish? Check. A safe spot to store his tie clip and cufflinks? Check. Mom needs a bowl to hold bobby pins and hair elastics? A special spot to store her rings at night? Check. Check. And that’s how this project came about. I {quite desperately} need a spot to keep my rings while not wearing them instead of my usual leaving them somewhere in our large apartment only misplace them and eventually find them a few days later. While we could have made just a regular pinch pot, we decided to try making a hand-shaped ring dish since I’m a little obsessed with handprint projects. Didn’t it turn out sweet?

This month’s Bright Minds theme is ‘Around the World’, which I was super excited about after designing and running our school’s ‘Passport to Adventure’ themed camp a few years ago.

Something I’ve recently started making sure we make time for is fun, hands-on book activities. I’ve always loved extending favourite read alouds with fun learning activities in my classroom, and Miss G absolutely adores reading books, so I’m not sure why it took this long, but heh – here we are.

Want to know something fun??
Over the last month and a half or so, this little lady and I have been trying out all sorts of activities, games, and recipes and purposely keeping them a secret!
Want a peek?

I had completely forgotten about this delicious broiled grapefruit until it donned on me last night as Grae and I were sharing a grapefruit for dessert. I’m not sure where I originally got the idea from, but when she was a tiny little thing, I’d simply broil hers with a little cinnamon on top, while mine would include a little bit of honey too. Now that she’s older and I don’t mind her having a little bit of honey here and there, this morning she got to try the real deal.

This week’s Bright Minds theme is lady bugs and Grae was so looking forward to our Crafty Kids class that she made sure to wear an outfit that included red. Little did she know, however, that she’d find a full-on lady bug costume upon arrival.
